ReduxEncoder
by st373n on Feb.10, 2010, under ReduxEncoder
Just to keep you all in up to date progress of the next release is still ongoing – the rewrite into ASObjC is taking a little longer than I had hoped.
Please keep the suggestions and feedback coming.

Nice to hear the progress is still going on. I’m having problems using the encode to “DVD – Burnable ISO” feature. It works well with small files, but with large files > 2gb I get a 0 byte iso. Read somewhere about it in the other posts comments, too …

Thank you so much for making this software available for free!!
I had bought and paid for VH and sometime before Tyler closed his doors, my MacBook crashed. It took me months to get it repaired due to time and money constraints. I finally got my MacBook repaired and went to install VH and found that it has been discontinued (and so suddenly it seems).
After Googling around I found out about this site and ReduxEncoder. This is the only app besides VH that reliably is able to reencode video from my old Panasonic DVD Cam.
Thank you again, for all your hard work. It seems ReduxEncoder is shaping up to be the best video recoder on the Mac

When will mencoder be 64 bit?

Thank you very much for the update. I look forward to seeing what the next version will look like.
Cheers

I also had a problem converting to a burned and burnable ISO. Burned didn’t actually burn anything, and both settings simply created a zero length ISO file, which obviously cannot be opened by anything. I was really hoping it would work! Good job on the rest, as I HAVE had success creating smaller iPhone versions of large files. Looking forward to the update!

Further info for you on my ‘no sound’ issue, forgot to mention that the track does get included in the converted file – it just doesn’t have any audible _sound_ in it. And no, fiddling with the various language numbers doesn’t make any difference (including ‘Auto’), same goes for bitrate & frequency.
p.s. Another odd ‘garbled log text’ bug I mentioned earlier is still a mystery. However, I now do know the resulting log text is apparently Base64 encoded text, hence looks like garbled nonsense at first… wow, haven’t seen good-ol’ Base64 since my usenet days on system 7!

Great to have a new visualhub.
I have a question though.
I use the reduxencoder mainly to convert rmvb files.
The strange thing is that when I add the rmvb files to the conversion list, some files cannot be added.
What causes this?
Thank you

This software is great..thanks! I too lost VH, and find your version to be as friendly, if not more so… One question/suggestion — could there be a way to monitor a folder for .mkv files, and automatically convert and replace them with .avi or .mp4? I often download .mkv files, but cannot play them back on all devices, so I need to convert them to .avi or .mp4 for universal playback. I use Hazel to automate file unrar, and moves, but I cannot see a way to automate the conversion of the .mkv files?? Would love to hear back from you if there is a way….Cheers!

Do you have any plans to make it multithreaded? Right now, when converting an mkv to dvd-video it only uses one thread… could be much faster with 4!
March 23rd, 2010 on 7:30 pm
Hi Justin
the conversions are already multi threaded – look a the mencoder processes when you do a conversion and you will see it running a couple of them with multiple threads,
the gui – redux just hands-off the processing to that, so it itself doesn’t need to be.

hi st373n you are a great man developing this software and many thanks for this.
i was trying to use the open source to integrate the xgrid feature (i found the code in redux zero) but since there is the bug in snow leopard i didn’t find any solution. but now seems to be fixed in 10.6.2, do you think in the future versions we can try to add the xgrid feature again?
i would like to help you in any way
bye

when? When? WHEN? We need 1.2.7.

Hi st373n,
I am extremely happy to see this project still on the move! I am running an encode right now, and I feel like it is taking a LOT longer than it used to. It says it has about 7 hours left…
This file is very high in quality, but it shouldn’t take that long. IS that normal?

Is there any way of controlling the aspect ratio of movies when converting to DVD? I have tried converting a couple of avi files that were 2.25:1 to DVD but the finished DVD was stretched to 16:9.
I would love it if ReduxEncoder automatically detected the dimensions of the movie and added the appropriate black bars to the top and bottom of the final vob files.

Also, I just wanted to add a BIG THANK-YOU! ReduxEncoder is already the best of the FilmRedux clones and is shaping up to be the best video encoder for mac.
Keep up the good work!

ReduxEncoder should treat the insides of packages as “read only” (and default ot the desktop or whatever).
Currently, if you add a video file that’s inside a package to the conversion queue and select “Save to where the original file is,” then RE dutifully saves the current file right inside the package along side the original. This is not really a good thing.
This is an issue for people who use RE with files from EyeTV, since the recordings are packages containing video files (and other files).
Also, I’d like to reiterate a request I’ve been making since the VisualHub days… an option to automatically clear the queue after successful conversion would be really nice. After all, when does anyone ever convert the same files over and over?
Thank you for your consideration.

Me again. Got another error when quitting the program: “AppleScript Error: System events got an error: illegal comparison or logical. (-1726)

Hi
redux encoder is a great program, but there is some things that need to be fixed when trying you select a file to convert to DVD and then select burned DVD it does not make a DVD when finches, it makes a MPEG and stops. The there should be a button when you select this button it should make the DVD and burn it for you.
I try selecting burnable image and burned DVD with no luck in making the DVD image for burning.
When you select converts to menu why is video devices grade out same for gaming systems and generic formats
from
Mac one
PS the speed of conversion is fantastic

First let me say thank a lot for all the time, effort, and resources you’ve put into making all of our lives a bit easier! I’m by no means computer savvy and the simplicity of this had carried on in the proud tradition that was VisualHub -a moment of silence-
Anyways, I was wondering if someone could help me out or explain (in very simple 2nd grade terms) why I’m receiving the following error:
“Applescript error: wav is not defined (-2753)”
What does that mean? Any explanation or remedy would be appreciated immensely!
Also, and this is just an afterthought from a graphics designer
I really like the Filmredux icon… the Reduxencoder icon however… not so much! Either way; this is a great product and I look forward to many updates to come!

Hello, i just found out RE wrote more than 5GB Data under /logs during the last half year. Some job-logs are bigger than 100 MB and my question is: why so much stuff for a single job, and can it be switched off?
Bye, and keep up the good work!

Hi – Just found you. I’m a Visual Hub user -soooo happy to find this. Noticed an issue not present with VH however. If you edit edit an mp4 file using QuickTime Pro [e.g. - cleaning up heads/tails of a clip] and then save it as a self contained QuickTime file – when you convert that QuickTime file to a .wmv – the AUDIO from the clip edited which was edited out of the mp4 [but not the VIDEO] resurfaces in the converted [wmv] file. The result is you have a video out of audio sync by the amount of the clip edited out. Is there a fix for this?
