1.2.7 is near…
by st373n on Nov.07, 2009, under ReduxEncoder
Well the next build is nearly ready for release – and I have re-installed 10.5 on an old mac to try and clear up some of the issues people are having with it, namely the Apple Script Error…Illegal comparison or logical, and the System Events …Illegal comparison or logical. So far the 10.5 testing is about half way there, with just one remaining Illegal or Logical error to track down, those user on 10.6 won’t have seen these error messages anyway – hopefully, but there is still quite a large base of 10.5 user so I decided to re-evaluate my position on 10.5 testing.
In other features, more files now convert as another floating point bug was tracked down and resolved, Some UI elements have been reorganised, extra tags can be manually added to support multiple audio tracks and subtitles in the advanced info box, but I may even get time to add some drop down lists for language selection of multiple audio tracks or multi channel to make it easier to do….

Does ReduxEncoder enable a Mac 10.6.2 user to convert .tivo files to other video formats? Can it convert HD files? Can it convert HD files to SD files while converting from .tivo format?
Thanks!
Latteman

Looking forward to trying it. Thanks for your work.
It is appreciated.

Hey Latteman, yes to HD and SD for mkv’s and ts etc, but i dont have a tivo but would guess so.
The tivo basically records the broadcast as two mpeg stream a mpeg1 for audio and and mpeg2 for video but stores them as 2 ES files which contain the mpeg stream and some timestamp data.
You would probably have to convert them both and then mux them together.
Send me some files from your tivo if you want… and I can play around with them and see.

Using Redux Encoder on OSX 10.6.2 and monitoring memory usage with iFreeMem app. The Redux does a memory allocation and usage, and the memory can’t be reallocated as Redux cashes are destroyed in the process by iFreeMem.
Hopefully the Redux design will incorporate an improvement…
Perhaps a little info exchange between Redux and the iFreeMem creator (who answers all emails quickly and graciously) Product Support would be helpful to both.
Thanks for the app. It’s proving very valuable converting my Bogie VHS library.

Hi,
Great work so far, although I have not been able to convert a file yet as I have tried a 8gig files wmv, mkv etc and all i get is 5 mins of video and redux claims it has completed, running snow leopard.
Cheers Mithandra

yep your getting hit by the floating point error on large file, force the framerate to 23.976 in the advanced tab will fix that until 1.2.7 is ready

Hey great to hear more progress is being made. I can’t wait to try out the new release and keep up the great work.

Hi – with 1.2.6 I cannot get any of my Matroska-wrapped AC3 audio to convert to 5.1. Everything is rendered as AAC stereo. Any ideas? Otherwise, thanks for producing a well-designed app.

Hi Mark – current Redux is only outputting 2 channel sound

Hi there,
Was glad to find this…burning MKV files to DVD on VH has been increasingly difficult (kept getting choppy video, even though VLC played it back fine on the computer).
Anyways, I put an MKV file into Redux, picked ‘burn DVD’. I opened up the mpg file as it was encoding and the aspect ratio wasn’t correct (although the video was definitely smoother). Figured I’d wait til the DVD burned to see what the final result was, and after an hour of encoding, it didn’t burn and the ISO on my desktop was ‘empty’.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Thank you for this useful piece of software. In the When Done options, it would be nice to be able to add to iTunes _and_ quit ReduxEncoder. Can the Add to iTunes option be placed somewhere else, such as a checkbox on the quality panel?

st373n,
Thanks, I just had the exact same question about surround sound in the 1.25 post’s comments. It’s great to know the app is constantly evolving, can’t wait for the next build. A very polished encoder!
PS. Have you had any experience with transcoding .m2ts streams (blu-ray) ? ReduxEncoder reads them just fine (decrypted ofcourse), which is very promising.
It would be nice to have a high quality MP4 h264 preset (8000 kbps or so) with surround sound support that plays nice with a PS3
Thanks for all the hard work.

You, sir, are a God! Thank you so much for this, VisualHub was discontinued just before I was about to get a copy of it, and I’ve struggled ever since to find a suitable alternative.
I downloaded the source code, thinking I’d just be able to click ‘Build’ and it would work. …It didn’t, and since I have no knowledge of code whatsoever, I was stuck.
So yeah, great work, although one thing: I can’t seem to get videos to stitch in the right order, no matter which order I put them in the queue. If this could be looked into I’d be most greatful.

I can’t wait for 1.2.7!!! Have been looking everywhere for a decent converter and all i keep hearing about it visualhub – so i went with ReduxEncoder of course! Only to find i’m having all those 10.5 script errors.. Thank you so much for all ur hard work and i’ll be on the edge of my seat until the next one is out!! Cheers!

Trying to convert some MPEG4 files to VOB/DVD on Mac Pro under 10.6.2.
First tried to make a test on a short clip. TRIM was ignored and the whole file was converted to MPEG2. Never got the VOB, because this error ocurred:
———————
AppleScript Error
Can’t set <> “Bar” of window “ReduxEncoder” to false. (-10006)
———————
Then the software just sat there stuck but not hung. Quit worked.
I had a look at the generated MPEG file. Playback had an obvious jerk every second or so. The pixel aspect ratio was ignored also, but i’m not knowledgeable enough to know whether it should have been visible in the MPEG, or whether it’s something specified within some other part of the DVD structure.

Will this version fix the encoding of BRrip mp4 files? I tried to encode BRrip files to apple tv format and i get this error.
MP4ERROR: MP4Open..
or does anyone have a fix for this?

It doesn’t max out my CPU. on Core 2 duo, 40% of my CPU is idle. Is there a way to give redux a higher priority so to use max out my CPU or atleast use it up to 95% or so.

The width and height should have an aspect ratio lock. so as i lower the width the height should scale down proportionally

Check the usage of the mencoder process, thats the one thats doing the actual encoding – the redux process is just the UI
January 4th, 2010 on 7:53 am
thanks for developing this software it looks good. can you suggest a way to circumvent an error that i get? i tried to convert a 4g,1536-bitrate mkv file to mp4 with a G4 PowerBook on 10.5. redux said errors prevented the conversion. these were the errors:
-Audio-,0,2,ita,DTS,48000,6,1,1536000
-Audio-,1,3,eng,AC3,48000,6,64000
thanks

Is it possible to become a tester for the new version.
Thanks

Stmashaw – you could try forcing it to use one of those audio tracks by adding -alang en for the english or -alang it to the advanced panel

We are all eagerly awaiting v1.2.7 but no blog updates since Nov 7, 2009. Come on, give us a hint…
January 26th, 2010 on 11:56 pm
I tried using this for the first time and I
I keep getting an error message with the two files i tried to convers.
video codec id: 28
audio codec id 15002,tag:0

Hi David,
Lots of updates to posts in other areas around the blog, but nothing yet to report on the upcoming release other than most of the codebase has been migrated to ASObjC now from applescript, so hang tight…
January 28th, 2010 on 4:15 pm
I will indeed hang tight. I have experimented with just about every video conversion software out there… on both Mac and Windows, from cmd line ffmpeg and mencoder to handbrake to yamb, from tsmuxer to mp4muxer, from VideoCharge to MediaCoder, all the myriad AVS converter wanna-be tools, and throw in Movie Converter Studio, ReelBean, and ClipWrap for good measure. Trust me, none of these work as well as the 2+ year old VisualHub. So yes, we are all desperately waiting for RE v1.2.7 !! And by the way, if it works as well as ViualHub did/does, I would gladly pay for the software. Even if you only have an alpha or beta ready, I’m game. Cheers!

Hi,
First of all I wanted to thank you for your hard work on this project!
My specific question has to do with subtitles. In this update you mention that extra tags can be added manually to include subtitles, but I have no idea what said tags would actually be. I have the videos and the subtitle files, but no idea how to put them together. Any help would be really appreciated!
March 23rd, 2010 on 7:34 pm
hey Matilde – I will do full documentation eventually of all the necessary bits – but for the time if you look at the mencoder website any of the parameters there can be passed to your conversion in ReduxEncoder, so for example if you had a source with multiple subtitle tracks and you wanted subtitle track 1 you would use the command -sid 1
for now you can enter those commands into the extra audio flags box.

Thanks! I’ll try it out.
