v1.2.6 release
by st373n on Oct.05, 2009, under ReduxEncoder
This update contains a bug fix for the floating point exception bug when converting 1080 mkv files. Also the stitching order has been corrected when making ISO files from more than 1 video file.
October 6th, 2009 on 8:26 am
Is there any timeframe for when you think external (srt) subtitles will work?
October 6th, 2009 on 8:41 am
Don – No, its as and when I get time to spend on it.
October 6th, 2009 on 9:38 am
Hi,
I just discover your program, thx a lot, it seems to work well.
I see 1 bug:
Burnable Image make a 0Bits ISO file
Thanks for your job
October 6th, 2009 on 9:57 am
Hey atlas95 – have a look in the logs/tmp/retemp and see at what point it fails – behind the scenes its a three step process – convert the file to mpeg , make it into a dvd – bundle it as an ISO, there should be a log for each event.
If your chaptering or stitching then there will be logs for those processes to.
October 6th, 2009 on 6:56 pm
all your download links are dead.
October 6th, 2009 on 6:57 pm
sorry, download links in footer work, download links in content are all teh failz.
October 6th, 2009 on 7:26 pm
Hi matt, yep footer links are the one’s to use,
the one’s in the content are outdated
October 6th, 2009 on 7:36 pm
Well guess what, “exception” error still there & NOTHING happens! Now what??
October 6th, 2009 on 7:52 pm
Hey Icelander, sorry to hear your still having issues, i’m not getting the error on any of the test systems now, so all I can guess is that I have some codec or library installed locally that’s getting into the build – will try it on a fresh 10.5 install later ( im guessing your on 10.5.8 as in your prev post? ) and see if I can get it to error.
October 7th, 2009 on 5:51 pm
Thank you, it’s extremely frustrating to get this error all the time (and it’s 100% persistent!), so any & all help is greatly appreciated.
Btw, I think the separate support files from when this was FilmRedux may still be on my system somewhere, could there be a clash of some kind there?? If so, how would I go about removing them?
October 7th, 2009 on 10:35 pm
HI, they shouldn’t cause any problems but to remove them you can trash the following if you want:
in usr/local/bin the executable files called: faac & x264
in usr/local/lib the library files called: libfaac.0.0.0.dylib, libfaac.o.dylib, libfaac.dylib, libfaac.a, libfaac.la
and in usr/local/include the files called: faac.h and faaccfg.h

Hi!
This is a nice program that you have built, but I have a question for you; I have been searching everywhere for a program that can do bulk converts of various movie files to motion-jpeg AVIs, compatible with my picture frames. That struggle has been quite a bit harder than it sounds. “Is there a way to use Redux to do this? I cannot find where to specify the AVI encode codec.”
The last question is about output video size; Is there a way to specify a maximum horizontal AND vertical size (e.g. no wider than 800 pixels and no taller than 600 pixels)? This is also related to trying to pump out video content for my picture frame.
Thanks!
-Daniel

st373n,
Great product. I was glad to find this since visual hub has stopped development. I noticed in the conversions the Flash option was greyed out. Is this a Snow Leopard issue or is it a format that will be activated at a later date?
thanks,
-spike
October 9th, 2009 on 9:31 pm
Hi Daniel, currently there is no way within ReduxEncoder to choose the format inside the avi container.
The output size can be defined in the advanced settings panel, and it will apply to all the items in a batch.
October 9th, 2009 on 9:33 pm
Spike the flash option is not coded into ReduxEncoder yet so thats why its greyed out, once its ready it will be activated.
Thanks.
October 10th, 2009 on 12:21 am
st373n, thanks for the response. Even though it isn’t set up to do what I need to do at the moment, I think this is a heck of a nice piece of work. Rock On!
October 10th, 2009 on 12:28 am
Cheers Dan!
October 10th, 2009 on 7:34 am
Thanks, Then I just wait until the srt is in place. It’s a great app! Putting subs on film is a big thing for (my kids
so I’ll hope you’ll get the time. Redux has the speed and quality for matching my needs.
Have a good weekend.

Hi, I am having problems playing back the files after they are converted. I’m on OS 10.6.1 and none of the converted videos play in Quicktime X. All I get is a loading screen. They play just fine in VLC, though, but I’d much rather use Quicktime X.
I’ve messed around with settings to try and fix the problem, but it’s the same thing every time. Any help?
October 10th, 2009 on 4:22 pm
all playing fine here in quicktime x and vlc
try a full reset from the ReduxEncoder menu
October 10th, 2009 on 6:26 pm
Hello,
i’ve problem with avi export.
The file has video codec xvid and audio codec aac.
shouldn’t be mp3?
October 12th, 2009 on 12:05 pm
Thaks for this great program. It works fine for me, except for subtitles that don’t work. How can I do for embed subtitles?
October 12th, 2009 on 5:01 pm
hey kiermel, the code for the subs in not done yet, so no they wont work currently.
October 12th, 2009 on 5:51 pm
hello st373n
thanks for doing the hard work here – I wish I could help. VisualHub was great too.
So, I have some things that work and others don’t. Have collected some Logs.
where should I send them?
What I need is support for multiple audio streams in mkv…
Anyway, what is working with mkv an what isn’t?
Thanks
alex
October 12th, 2009 on 11:32 pm
I test this app on my G5 dual and keep getting error like so:
dyld: library not loaded: @executable path libfaac.0.dylib reference from mencoder etc. etc.
I tried different settings all saying the same thing.
Any help….
Thanks
October 13th, 2009 on 12:57 am
Hi Alex,
multiple audio streams are not yet supported
but you can send logs to reduxsupport at easelnet dot com
thanks
October 13th, 2009 on 12:59 am
hey Pipieye
The libfaac libraries are not compiled for ppc only intel – hope to get universal dylibs compiled up sometime.
October 13th, 2009 on 7:04 pm
“HI, they shouldn’t cause any problems but to remove them you can trash the following if you want…”
Well, I didn’t find any of these files via Spotlight and I don’t know my way around os x well enough to understand your directory tree there (I’ve found no folder named ‘local’ or ‘lib’ for instance) so I haven’t found anything with manual search. Thing is, installer log says these files did get installed – I just can’t find them!
So I’m a bit at a loss here… and still with a completely non-functional application on my hands. HELP??
October 13th, 2009 on 7:37 pm
Hey Icelander,
ok the /usr/local /usr/local/lib and such are usually hidden in os x, there a couple of ways to get there, you can use something like tinkertool to show hidden files, or you can use the finder Go> menu and in the box type /usr/local or the path that you want it to open.
October 14th, 2009 on 7:27 pm
Hi st373n,
Really nice app . Thx for all the job involved
I tried to reencode a mkv (h264 aac 1280 ) today in standard .avi and I couldn’t manage to get the sound in Mp3 . it’s always in aac (tried 3 times taking special care of the output defined in advanced pannel )
That’s why the .avi can’t be read in quicktime and only in VLC I suppose
October 14th, 2009 on 7:54 pm
hi yep it only does them in aac until i get round to adding the mp3 bit, also quicktime 7.2+ and X only play certain types of avi’s natively, but if you try adding perian into the mix and that will get quicktime playing the files for you.

tried to convert an mkv file and it creates a temp file and then says its complete, but doesn’t actually convert the file. Here’s the log:

When trying to convert .avi files the progress bar does not stop and I get the following error window: AppleScript Error Illegal comparison or logical. (-1726). I am using OS X 10.5.7 in 20″ iMac, AppleScript Runner 1.0 and AppleScript Utility 1.1. That all said, it seems the file is converted to mp4 format fine. Any ideas as to what may be going on?
October 18th, 2009 on 6:26 am
Hey st373n,
Thanks for taking up the banner left behind with VisualHub’s departure. Looks like you have the makings of a very good program.
One question – is there any way to have audio processed as “passthrough”. ReduxEncoder is processing Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks and re-encoding them as 2-channel.
October 18th, 2009 on 10:37 pm
Jim, looks like your getting the floating point error with that file – working on it still…
October 18th, 2009 on 10:38 pm
Hi Herb, thats a known error is your using v1.2.6 on 10.5, you’ll need to either use v1.2.2 or 10.6
October 18th, 2009 on 10:38 pm
Hi Grant, Passthru is not currently an option but is something thats going to be added in a future release.
October 20th, 2009 on 10:48 pm
Hey, I have Snow leopard installed on my computer, I have installed reduxencoder, But i don’t get alot of the converting options (Example, Generic files:Quicktime,MPEG,Flash) So i figured i need to install the FilmRedux Support files, I’v downloaded them, But whenever i try to install them it comes up with an error….. Please help
October 20th, 2009 on 11:25 pm
The support files are not needed for ReduxEncoder any more, all the necessary components are bundled into the application folder now.
Those greyed out menu items are that way because those formats have not yet been added to the application.
October 22nd, 2009 on 1:14 pm
hi, great app thanks. coming along nicely.
Everythime it finishes converting i get an applescript error msg “file not found” …It does not affect anything but you still get the msg.
Also, is there any chance to add RM codecs so we can convert realplayer files like ‘penguin encoder’ has.
October 22nd, 2009 on 7:03 pm
i will look into realplayer codecs
October 24th, 2009 on 6:14 pm
Hi st373n,
I have been getting the same results as atlas95. DVD image with Zero bytes. However, when I set the “Chapters Every:” setting to none and uncheck the “simple menu” setting it seems to work just fine.
One question. I had a problem previously with visualhub producing dvds with jerky video on my DVD player. The author of visualhub suggested adding the following flags to Extra FFmpeg Flags box: -ildct -ilme. These did the trick for me. Are these flags available within your app.?
Thanks!
October 24th, 2009 on 7:07 pm
Hi northcountry
ReduxEncoder is not using ffmpeg for its backend it uses mencoder with some of the ffmpeg libraries, the flags you listed may well work or mencoder may even have flags that perform the equivalent action, however there is no way from the frontend for you to pass the extra flags, the flags are constructed depending upon which options are chosen in the gui and that string is passed to mencoder in a temporary file called mencoder_string thats created on the fly when you click on start. I guess it wouldn’t be too much work to add an extra box for user input somewhere in the advanced window – i will keep that in mind for a future release.
October 29th, 2009 on 6:50 pm
Well, I found & removed those old supporting files, and guess what – NO CHANGE, EXCEPTION ERROR STILL THERE!! I could just, just… aaaaarrrrgggh!!!
October 30th, 2009 on 7:12 pm
Hey icelander, first up thanks for your persistence with the app, looks like the error is still there in Leopard, having fixed it so it didn’t produce that error in Snow Leopard seems to break in in leopard, so aaaarrrrgggh indeed !
Reports back from other do suggest that file’s infact convert successfully even with the applescript error in Leopard, however not having any leopard systems now i can’t verify that. All my development is moving forward for Snow Leopard now…
October 31st, 2009 on 7:03 pm
Dear st373n
As a long-time user and fan of VisualHub, I was delighted to stumble across the news that ReduxEncoder had got the stage of a usable test version.
Glad to see that you’ve kept the spirit of Tyler Loch alive by not taking yourself too seriously, unlike the tech-geek knowledge-snobs behind Handbrake, which from my experience, was simply never as good as VH anyway.
Anyway, keep up the good work and I’ll be sure to report back any (hopefully helpful) observations.
For the record, my personal requirement is for something reliable to convert HD MKV files to something Apple TV can cope with. VH is still working but has started producing more and more files which don’t play smoothly when converted from MKV source files, even though they play fine.
All the best.
p.s. I for one will be quite happy to pay once a full release is available. The $20 I paid for VH was a great investment and one I’d make again for a future-proof alternative.
October 31st, 2009 on 7:18 pm
Hi Twelvebears,
Thanks for the positive feedback…. most of the mkv files I throw at it convert and play on my appletv fine, ocassionally i find a mkv file that it just plainly refuses to convert and then its a case of doing it manually with mencoder, once i’ve built up a selection of further parameters to pass to it for those files they will get rolled into a later build.
October 31st, 2009 on 7:58 pm
Hi st373n
OK, weird. So the first file I was trying to encode was a small-ish 1.09Gb MKV file (an episode of SG Universe actually), which I had just finished encoding successfully with VH, so thought it would be an interesting comparison.
Used the ATV setting, on ‘High’ quality (my VH default), with 5min chapter markers, encoding from an external drive to my desktop.
First attempt and I instantly got the ‘Illegal comparison or logical’ error message and it seemed to hang on ’starting conversion’. Binned it and tried again immediately and seems to be working fine. Only difference was that I changed the source file name slightly to help me identify my ‘tests’.
Regards
twelvebears
October 31st, 2009 on 8:02 pm
Actually, scrap that, it’s not working. Just give the illegal/illogical message and either hangs on ’starting conversion’ or does nothing.
Will keep trying without changing anything from standard and see what happens.
October 31st, 2009 on 8:08 pm
OK, well I quit, deleted the duff file, relaunched and tried the same MKV file again on completely standard ATV settings (high quality) and just keep getting the Applescript error: Illegal comparison or logical. (-1726)
Any thoughts?
