Update Available v1.2.5
by st373n on Sep.22, 2009, under ReduxEncoder
This update now correctly (see post above) stitches M4V, Mp4 and AVI files, The DVD imaging code has been rewritten and will now make dvd’s if more than 1 file is in the queue, The stitching tmp error has been fixed, Chaptering now writes its own tmp logs so the MP4open bug should be fixed.
There is still plenty of work to be done yet but this update is now ready and I hope this release will fix the issues reported.

I wanted to say that I absolutely love this software. I recently purchased VideoVangelist and had nothing but problems with it. This is way better. Thanks

I’m trying to convert a .mov file to .mp4 but it’s not working.
There’s a process called movtoy4m that it’s working with 90% of CPU.
On another hand there’s a lot of formats that I can’t choose, is it normal?

Xavi – do you get a message or something in the log files

So, I just updated to the latest version of the software. I dropped in the two files that I want stitched together. The box for stitch has been checked and it asks me to name the file once I press start. The files are set to appear in where the original file is located. So after about 40-45 minutes I end up with two files that are not stitched together. Am I missing a step?
I am currently running Snow Leopard on a current generation 3.06 iMac with 8GB of RAM.
Thank you for your help!

SecretNinja, You should end up with Three files, the two input files will first be converted to the output format and then they will be joined and output as the third file.
Stitching only works for M4V, MP4 and AVI, it does not work for WMV.
Have a look at the file ReduxEncoder_stitchstatus in your /tmp/retemp folder and see if it lists any problems, you need to open this file before OK’ing the conversion completed dialog otherwise it will be deleted when the program does its tidying up.

I’m having an issue with the convert to DVD settings. Converting a single AVI file, if I choose to create either a burnable image or a VIDEO_TS folder, all I end up with is an MPG file. Watching the progress bar, I can see it go briefly to the stage where it should be putting together the DVD structure, but after about a second it says the conversion is finished and no disc structure is created. I’m using ReduxEncoder 1.2.5 on Mac OS X 10.6.1. System specs: MacBook Pro 3,1, Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz, 4 GB RAM.

Hi robotank – if you want to also send me your logs from /tmp/retemp I can have a look thru them and see where its stopping

Sorry to be such a pain in the ass. Ao I started out with 2 avi files each are a little less than a gig. They convert into the m4v’s just fine (I am using the AppleTV setting at “Go Nuts”). There is still no 3rd file. I am selecting keep surround if possible and mark chapters at 5 minutes. I went into the tmp/retemp and found the following in the stitchstatus:
## NewMovieFromDataRef() error:-2000
Can’t open file:/Users/joearredondo/Desktop/Tag/Archive/CD
## NewMovieFromDataRef() error:-2000
Can’t open file:1
## NewMovieFromDataRef() error:-2000
Can’t open file:musicistheheartofoursoul-converted-090922-200407.m4v
## NewMovieFromDataRef() error:-2000
Can’t open file:/Users/joearredondo/Desktop/Tag/Archive/CD
## NewMovieFromDataRef() error:-2000
Can’t open file:2
## NewMovieFromDataRef() error:-2000
Can’t open file:musicistheheartofoursoul-converted-090922-200445.m4v
Saving file:/tmp/retemp/1253675132/reduxencoder_combined.mov
Any ideas?

Thanks, great work. Is it possible to stitch 2 avi’s without re-encoding, I can’t find a video pass-through setting.

Greendave – theres no pass thru setting – but what a great idea! i will see about adding it.

Hi Xavi, any chance you can email me the log files from /tmp/retemp/ to reduxsupport at easelnet dot com, I can then look into them for you.

I can’t get version 1.25 64bit to work at all. All I get is can’t divide 0 by 0. Running on Imac 7,1 with 10.6.1

Soboku1 – when do you see that message, what is it your converting from/to and any other options?

Hi,
Great software. It seems like the some settings in adv settings for avi doesn’t work. Size work, file size and 2 pass etc doesn’t.
It’s probably already posted, and soft is in beta but it could be good to know.
Thank you and I really hope that you will have the time and energy to keep the project upp!

I have been experimenting with ReduxEncoder to convert MKV (high def) video to DVD burnable images. I am now using version 1.2.5 (1211) which is nice and fast, but for some reason, most of the videos are coming out with the aspect different than it should be.
Normally, I want 16:9 and it appears to be 16:9 in the finished video except everything is stretched to be skinnier as if it was trying to put 4:3 into a 16:9 window.
I found that if I burn the finished product to a DVD, I can change the settings on my Oppo DVD player to Letterbox which makes it look more like it should.
I am using a MacPro with 3GBs of RAM, plenty of hard drive space and QuickTime Pro to view the original MKV video and DVD Player to view the converted video. DVD Player doesn’t have any settings to change the aspect of the video.
I am not changing any settings in ReduxEncoder except to add chapters and uncheck Simple Menu. Another odd thing–I just converted a 1:30 MKV video to DVD image using ReduxEncoder and it ended up a double-feature when I looked at it in DVD Player. The movie was stretched skinny and it had the full movie twice–if you were to play it from start to finish it would play twice. Again, I did nothing but add chapters every 5 minutes and uncheck Simple Menu.

Hello,
I love Reduxencoder so far! I do have a question. Is it possible to passthrough dolby digital audio when encoding a movie to Apple TV format. I have the “Keep Surround track (if possible)” box checked, but I get a stereo AAC track when the encode is finished. After finishing the encode with Reduxencoder, I’ve been switching out the AAC track with the original Dolby Digital track from the source file using Quicktime 7, but it would be great if I could avoid this step. Thanks! Matt Foster

September 29th, 2009 on 3:31 pm

Hi wloczykij
I don’t think that you can officially re-download since techspansion closed, though you may find it out there on the net, or perhaps on the techspansion forum if its still going.
Im not and never have been anything to do with them, (techspansion or kagi – hence I edited out your purchase details from your post for privacy)
ReduxEncoder is based loosely upon code that tyler released some time after their closure.

Great program,
I wonder why this site is not listed among the top Google hits when searching for “free avi to ipod convert”. Your program deserves much larger exposure.
A small suggestion that would make life easier for users like me who manage their files manually on their iPod: add an option to the “When I’m done” menu that copies/moves the converted video(s) directly to the iPod’s Movies library (instead of the Mac’s) in iTunes.
Thanks.
