Hi st373n!
Fist of all: A BIG THX! A real VisualHub successor
I found ReduxEncoder a very promising app… Easy, Powerful and Clean.
As I said on VersionTracker is the first app (after VisualHub) that
succeed converting a .mkv file into iPhone format without issue.
I’d like to participate with an Italian translation if you want. Just ASK!
See ya in Cyberspace pal

Hey Lorenzo,
Thanks for the offer, that would be great!
Have fixed the email address now so if you want to drop me a line we can work it out.
Cheers

Well a BIG Thank You to Lorenzo, the translated file has just been received back and i will get in into the next release.
So who’s next

I apologize if this error has been discussed already but I have not seen it addressed yet. Running the app and trying to convert a MP4 to WMV file produces an Apple Script error.
Illegal comparison or logical. (-1726)
Any ideas?
September 9th, 2009 on 12:18 am
Hi yes some uses seem to be having this problem with the current version of ReduxEncoder 1.2.4, although I have been unable to reproduce the error myself and currently looking into it.
if you want the prior version a download link is now in the footer of the blog.
If your able to let me know, System Specs, OS Version, Language & Region settings, Intel /PPC that may help me narrow the error down to a specific user type.
Many thanks

So excited about this app but I keep getting an error:
the threads option must be :> 8:16
error parsing option on the command line: -lavcopts
I have a small sample I can send over to you if you need. I would love to see this working as I was a heavy Visual Hub user.
September 9th, 2009 on 9:47 am
Hi Jono, please do send a sample that would be great also what were to trying to encode it to
September 11th, 2009 on 4:33 pm
Any luck with the sample I sent?

I get a persistent “Illegal comparison (-1726)” AppleScript Error when trying to convert anything to Home Theater AVI. Am on Mac Pro, using OS X 10.5.8.
September 12th, 2009 on 6:38 pm
Hi Icelander, seems that problem is happening on Leopard but not in Snow Leopard, looking into it and hopefully will have a fix in the next build.
September 13th, 2009 on 12:31 am
Hi Jono,
Received the mkv file from you, thanks. however I cannot get it to play in vlc or imkv even before I try it in ReduxEncoder, can you tell me any more about the file, is it from a settop box stream, something downloaded, or something you’ve made yourself in another app?
Cheers.
September 13th, 2009 on 5:51 pm
Sorry about the sample file. I downloaded it as part of a movie torrent. Tried it and it wouldn’t play on mine machine either it was a bad sample file. The actual movie.mkv was fine.
I worked out the problem though. it my OS I’m running Mac OSX Leopard Server. I reinstalled ReduxEncoder on my Macbook pro Sow Leopard 10.6 and it works fine. So something in the App is not compatible with Snow leopard Server. Its unfortunate because previously Visual hub worked fine on my server machine (which far exceeds the power of my Macbook Pro). But I appreciate all the work you’ve done and understand if you don’t have the ability to test it out on server. Thank so much for communicating with me. Let me know if you ever get a chances to test it on server. For now I’ll just download and convert on my laptop.
September 13th, 2009 on 5:59 pm
Hmm interesting to know its not working on server, i’ll install when I get time and try and see why.
Good to hear that it works for you in 10.6
September 16th, 2009 on 5:10 am
I cant get it to work on Snow Leopard 10.6.1 i have a 8core macpro. i keep getting
“Fatal System Error
Critial componets of Mac OSX are missing or damaged on your system. Without them, ReduxEncoder is unable to continue.
the affected componets is/are:
-Unix command’id;. this may require a reinstallation of Mac os x.
reduxencoder will now quit.”
anyway of getting around this?
September 16th, 2009 on 4:56 pm
Check and see if you have ‘id’ in /usr/bin/ you should have, it comes as part of OS X.
In your terminal enter /usr/bin/id
The result should start uid=
On our macpro here with 10.6.1 the file is there.

Hi Jono
Question for you about Snow Leopard Server
I have just installed Snow Leopard Server and converted successfully – I’m using my nightly build of RE so something may have changed, but im curious as to what issues you had ?
September 21st, 2009 on 3:15 pm
A VERY promising app, though not without some kinks to work out. For example, when converting files to mp4, the “output” file is not always the same dimensions (vertical/horizontal) as the “input” file. It seems to vertically compress the video, which makes the output file look odd when compared to the input.
Overall, though, I’m fairly impressed.

Well, here I am again, now with the 1.2.5 update – and it’s STILL GIVING ME THE APPLESCRIPT ERROR! I even trashed the old prefs for good measure, no change!
Thanks for the prompt reply last time, tho
September 29th, 2009 on 5:47 pm
Hey man,
The problem I was having is that non of my MKV file would convert they would stop and I would get the error I sent you before:
“the threads option must be :> 8:16
error parsing option on the command line: -lavcopts. ”
I will try another file again today with the newer build and see how it comes out. get back to you soon.

Hey Jono
Were the mkv’s 1080 – if so the latest release should fix the issue as there was an error with the fps

Hi st373n,
Great to see that the torch of VisualHub is being carried on. I’ve been looking for a replacement since I upgraded to 10.6.
I have one issue. Non of my mkv files with AC3 surround tracks are being passed through. They are all concerted to 2 channel.
Thanks,
Simon.
November 2nd, 2009 on 6:55 pm
Hi Simon,
There is no passthru on AC3 yet everything gets output to 2 channels.
