ReduxEncoder…

ReduxEncoder … The NEW NAME for FilmRedux.
In an effort to distinguish this project from the other FilmRedux clones I have decided on a new name for it and that is ReduxEncoder, download links are live now, its got a new icon to match its name.
No other major changes yet, the same things still work and the things that didn’t work, still dont! but every effort is being made to get more of the feature set completed, The support binaries are finally in the application bundle so a separate download of those shouldn’t be needed.
A Manual Download of this version is required , the sparkle update mechanism that is used is unable to process updates correctly when an applications title has changed, (that is sparkle’s problem not mine !) once ReduxEncoder is installed updates will function in the usual way. Permanent download link in the footer of the blog.
Currently NOT COMPATIBLE with SNOW LEOPARD but do check back for an update…

Thank you so much for this project!

Hi there,
It’s not working under Snow Leopard, neither does FilmRedux or VisualHub.
August 28th, 2009 on 6:03 pm
Once my copy of Snow leopard arrives I will begin testing to see what changes need to be made to get it functional.
August 29th, 2009 on 10:23 pm
I’ve got snow leopard, I get an error message trying to encode a video, is everybody else getting errors? Guess I should have thought before installing SL so fast..

Well Snow Leopard has arrived finally… So working on getting ReduxEncoder to function..
Update. Now Works With Snow Leopard

Hello!!
I’ve just a short question.
Someone recommend me ReduxEncoder and i just download and try it.
And now i have a little problem.
Why i can’t choose another “Generic Format” as AVI or WMV?!
The other formats (MPEG, QuickTime, MP4…) can’t be choosen, because they are grey…
Can somebody told me what to do?!
Thank you very much!!
Vanessa

Hi, The other options are greyed out because I haven’t written them yet and they don’t yet function.
September 1st, 2009 on 5:55 pm
Ohhhh

Okay, i thought i broke something
Thank you for your answer!

Looks promising so far but eagerly awaiting FLV export…VisualHub was my go to app for taking Final Cut projects to Flash. Please help!

Hi st373n!
I tried converting a simple .mkv music video to iPod classic and got an error message stating “Illegal comparison or logical. (-1726)” The ‘Overall Progress’ never gets past ‘Starting Conversion’
I’m on 10.5.8 and the same file had no trouble being converted with VisualHub.
Am I missing something?
September 10th, 2009 on 9:40 am
Hi,
Yes the ReduxEncoder update of 1.2.4 included fixes for 10.6 Snow Leopard and has caused some issues for people running 10.5.x Leopard,
I would suggest as a temporary solution until i get the next build ready that you to drop back to release 1.2.2 which was a Leopard only release.
Others have reported that this has solved the problem for them.
There have been some changes in Applescript and some thing that worked in 10.5 don’t in 10.6, and visa versa etc. so I’m trawling through the code now to find them.

I own an iMac intel, I’ve tried FilmRedux with an MKV files with multichannels audiotrack, but when I try to convert I can only choose between Mono or Stereo audio. When will it work with DTS or DD audio? Thanx anyway for your work.
September 15th, 2009 on 10:11 pm
How can I manage with multichannels audiotrack?
September 15th, 2009 on 10:48 pm
They are not supported at this time.
September 16th, 2009 on 2:40 pm
Thanx anyway man!
September 25th, 2009 on 2:24 am
Thank you for making this available and continue to work on it.
Unfortunately, neither 1.2.2 or 1.2.5 will work in my G5 (10.5.8) with an mkv file created by HandBrake (0.9.3). The error message returned is not initially visible because the info window is not long enough. Clicking the “info” button (as opposed to “video”, “audio”, etc.) in this window will make the window stretch and display the error. The error is:
dyld: Library not loaded: @executable_path/libfaac.dylb
Referenced from: /tmp/retemp/1253838905/12538389065167/memencoder/12538389065167
FWIW, I checked the contents of ReduxEncoder and libfaac.0.dylib is inside the Resources/bin folder.
Again, thanks and best of luck in finishing the project.
(BTW, FilmRedux 1.2 from the MacUpdate won’t work either [plus it has the DVD choice grayed-out]. Maybe it is HandBrake which is causing the incompatibility.)
September 25th, 2009 on 5:38 pm
Hi ManU,
Handbreak is not causing you any problems, because your on ppc G5 your getting the error, the libfaac and libx264 binaries are both universal but the shared libraries libfaac.dylib and libx264.65.dylib are Intel only -
(This issue affects both ReduxEncoder and FilmRedux both my version and the other’s as they are all using my package of libraries. Looks like VLC have their own universal one but I doubt that its interchangable)
I’ll get universal ones included in the next bundle.
September 27th, 2009 on 7:51 pm
Thank you for clarifying this. (While checking things I noticed that the faac package was labeled elsewhere as Intel only and was hoping that yours was universal, but I just kept slogging throgh.)
BTW, I managed to get a VisualHub copy working and noticed that it does not import the chapter information (or maybe I just haven’t switched it on and need to educate myself further). Does ReduxEncoder import chapter info rather than putting chapter breaks every 5, 10, or 15 minutes as VisualHub does?
Again, thanks for your efforts.
September 27th, 2009 on 8:03 pm
Hi ManU, currently it doesn’t import the chapters, it just adds them at the intervals selected, once i get round to the code for importing from a dvd I hope it will read them and import them
September 29th, 2009 on 11:47 pm
st373n, thank you for responding.
Forgive me for not being specific enough in my earlier question: What I meant is that I have an iTunes-formatted movie (m4v) which contains chapter information. It is this chapter information that is ignored by VisualHub when creating a file suitable for DVD burning. I hope that you are working on this issue.
Perhaps I misunderstand you, but you seem to be saying in your latest post that you are working on extending the capabilities of ReduxEncoder to use a VIDEO_TS folder as the source and do all the necessary decoding. If so, that’s quite a task and again wish you success on that.
Again, thanks for your efforts. And be careful out there…

I just can’t wait to have FLV conversion available on this software. Thanks alot and keep on the great work !
November 2nd, 2009 on 12:44 am
st373n, it seems that you have made the change to Snow Leopard and the issues present in Leopard in G5s (universal binaries for the shared libraries) will no longer be considered. I guess I’ll continue using my legacy VH. When my hardware/software is upgraded (a big investment, but I will have to bite the bullet some day) I’ll give your effort another try. (I have not checked, but I assume that running your mencoder binary on its own will not work since it is not meant for 10.5.x on a G5, right?)
Thanks for you ongoing work, nonetheless. And best of luck.
November 2nd, 2009 on 12:58 am
Hi jmup, the mencoder binary inside the app bundle in universal and should work on its own just fine on a G5.
Regarding the choice of operating system the only testing I will be doing is on Snow Leopard 10.6
The application itself will still be compiled as a universal app and should run in Leopard 10.5 or later, on ppc or intel.
November 21st, 2009 on 2:46 pm
Hi I’m still using 10.4.11 on my intel imac and redux wouldn’t run at all.
what are the minimum system requirements for redux as I dont really want to move upto leopard.

Hi there, thanks for making this available. I got v1.2.6 working okay in Snow Leopard 10.6.2 but the audio track is out of sync with the video, is this a known bug? Best wishes, John.
January 20th, 2010 on 12:42 am
John, not noticed any issues here with out of sync audio, try playing the output files in vlc or mencoder and see if that plays them fine.
what format are you converting to?
January 26th, 2010 on 5:42 pm
Hi:
This may have been covered before …but I installed 1.26 and could not transcode. Got the Apple error messages widely reported.
I didn’t install the libraries as I thought the new DMG package was complete. Question:
what is the best procedure for install: libraries 1st? (and where are the latest libraries) then the program?
And will the errors go away with 1.26 or 1.22?
Thanks so much!
January 26th, 2010 on 5:55 pm
Wetcoaster – no need to install the libraries in 1.26 as they are all included inside the app bundle – however if your on snow leopard you will need to right click on ReduxEncoder and tick run in 32 bit mode to avoid the applescript error.
January 26th, 2010 on 7:37 pm
Thanks.
Then what would be the explanation for the following:
when trying to convert mpg to avi file I get (apple) error message then it hangs on preparing to transcode and just hangs there….forever.
Cheers
January 26th, 2010 on 9:05 pm
Whats the error message that your getting
January 26th, 2010 on 10:37 pm
apple script error

January 26th, 2010 on 10:41 pm
Are you sure your ticking the box to run it in 32 bit mode & are you using v1.2.6 of ReduxEncoder
January 27th, 2010 on 6:08 am
where is that setting??
January 27th, 2010 on 6:26 am
Sorry:
I found teh 32 bit setting and got it to convert but whenever I convert to an .avi file there is no sound. Is there a special setting fro .avi files?
January 27th, 2010 on 8:49 pm
Westcoaster, No that should be all you need to do.
Have you tried a different source file or destination format.
January 27th, 2010 on 8:50 pm
Do a Finder get info on the ReduxEncoder app and the tick box is in there.
January 27th, 2010 on 8:56 pm
I have tried several sources and several formats to convert from (.mov, mp4, etc) and all to .avi.
All convert without any audio?
Any suggestions?
Thanks for all your hard work!
January 29th, 2010 on 1:47 am
anyone else have the experience and find a solution to converting to .avi files without sound?
