Two Pass Now works correctly!
by st373n on Feb.14, 2009, under FilmRedux
Two pass encoding of files to Apple-device formats now works correctly, previous version were trying to read the wrong log file and then not doing the second pass correctly, this issue has now been addressed. thank you to all those who noticed and let me know.
As such I was able to add the same functionality to the avi conversions and it is now possible to choose two pass for them too.
Once the avi code is finalized and works with all the possible options the next formats I plan to work on are the dvd outputs .iso video_ts and .vob

Hi when i try to convert a file i have always this error:
Applescript error
«class taVI» “advancedvideobox” of «class tabV» “advancedbox” of window “advanced” doesn’t understand the switchText message. (-1708)
I use OSX 10.5.6 with english as default language, filmredux Version 1.0.3 (1.0.3.4 st373n)
February 15th, 2009 on 7:19 pm
What settings if any, have you chosen in the Advanced Settings window? Try draging in just a file and convert it to say appletv, just clicking start. Then try is again and change the setting and see if you get the error again…
February 15th, 2009 on 8:10 pm
I havan’t used the Advance setting, i olso click on clear all on the advance setting pannel.
I have tried with the appletv setting and ipod classic, but with the same result.
«class taVI» “advancedvideobox” of «class tabV» “advancedbox” of window “advanced” doesn’t understand the switchText message. (-1708)
February 16th, 2009 on 6:28 pm
Thats really wierd! The switchText message is only use in a few places in the code and should only be called when it needs to convert a comma to a decimal – for example is you set framerate to 23,976 it would convert it to 23.976
In you mac’s region settings for things like language and keyboard layout are those on English US/UK? some people have reported applescript errors when using other regions or languages.
There are NO localization’s in FilmRedux yet for different layouts and im wondering if that could be whats causing your issue – if you are set to US or UK then its most strange,
Also is this the only build of FilmRedux you have installed, do you have any build from the sourceforge project for example – im not sure how the applescript would react if both version were to be installed on the same system.
February 16th, 2009 on 6:33 pm
Just re-read your post again RickS and noticed that you already said you are on an English region – i will have a dig around that area in the code and see if I can spot anything there but its not an error that I can reproduce locally, im testing on two intel macs and a g5 all with 10.5.6
February 16th, 2009 on 8:07 pm
indeed, if I have selected romanian as language (my native tongue) I get that applescript error, hope that you will be able to fix-it , otherwise right now I try to convert supernatural …. hope to work … and thanks for what you try .. to reborn maybe the greatest videoconvertor for mac
February 16th, 2009 on 8:11 pm
I find it thanks for your post.
I forgot that i am on the english language, but i set the format of data times and numbers and currency like europe (italian).
I must use this strange setting because i use excel with italian’s made document, where is used comma instead of dot for number, date like day/month/year ecc.
I change the region format to “United states” and now all work.
But now a request can you change the code to work olso when the region is set to italian or custom, (comma instead of dot for numbers) ?
PS
I used visulahub for yars without this problem.
Thanks.
February 16th, 2009 on 8:21 pm
I think that the bug is in the procedure that convert comma with dot, or dot with comma that look the regions setting.
So if your region isn’t US/UK or US/UK like, applescript convert something like 23.976 FPS in 23,976 FPS (comma instead of dot).
It isn’t the language that you had choice, instead is the region setting that made the different, if you set a region that use comma instead of dot you have the bug.

For the next, next, next, release.
Can you add soft subtitle ?
I find a program name Subler
http://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=9197&start=25
I used it and work great.
Maybe you cant talk with the author and implement his code in filmredux.
February 17th, 2009 on 12:08 am
Excellent debugging RickS & dorin !
I have just set my region to Italy and now get the error which is good so we know what the cause is. Im looking into the function now.
As for subtitles yep there definitely on the list things to do
February 17th, 2009 on 1:47 am
OK think I have done it, checked it under Italian and English.
Uploading it now.
February 17th, 2009 on 6:59 am
OK now It’s works !
Thanks
February 17th, 2009 on 11:23 pm
Great good to know, thanks for your help
February 18th, 2009 on 11:29 am
Hmm, strange things happened.. I have converted a bunch of video, optimized for tv screen and ipod 5g as format .. well, itunes say that they cannot be played onto my iphone.. the same if I choose iphone format anf tv screen as optimization .. any ideea ?
February 18th, 2009 on 7:01 pm

I very much appreciate the work you’re doing here, but i’m curious as to why this is not being submitted/updated on the transcoder redux sourceforge page.
OSS development thrives on activity, both development and user based, and googling “visualhub reborn” will produce a great number of stories linking back to the sourceforge page, in addition to techspansion’s official link to that page.
I dare say i was lucky to find your blog after digging around on said page, and I’d love to see more attention drawn to these efforts.
If you don’t mind I could contact a few mac news sources with the URL for this blog?
February 22nd, 2009 on 12:12 am
Hi aew51183 Thank you please feel welcome to submit the URL to anyone you think it would be of interest to.
I decided to work on a fork of the project rather than the sourceforge team because I was looking for a project to further my applescript skills, and this is the main language used in the current filmredux code, from what I read over at sourceforge the team there are going to take a different approach and recode filmredux in objective c.
I do occasionally post information there about what I am doing and their build provides a link to my codec support pack, so i an way were helping each other out.

How does one submit bug issues to you?
I am a willing tester that can help….. If need be.
February 25th, 2009 on 9:16 pm
You can submit bug issues to me via gmail or just post here
February 25th, 2009 on 11:56 pm
What is the e-mail address at gmail??
Regardless….
I tried to convert a file…
It started and about 4-5 seconds later it said it was done but no file was created.
Below is the log file.

Hi the address is st373n at gmail dot com
It looks like you’ve either got missing or incorrect codecs,
Have you got the latest support pack installed, libfaac, libx264
March 1st, 2009 on 12:42 am
Have looked a bit deeper into this and it seems that certain mkv files have issues if the are 25fps and out is 23.976 try changing the framerate from auto to manual. This is on my bug list now to be looked into.
March 3rd, 2009 on 8:50 pm
Sorry for dupe post – but didnt see this thread going …
I’ve now loaded Redux – but when I go to rip a MVK file, I’m getting an Apple Error “Code to make .dmg not yet done” -2700…
Have I downloaded the “wrong” file somehow? As I mentioned on the other page, the link there is not active… so found another copy in the next post –
Sorry – I’m a Mac n00b – and don’t know squat about error codes – but was really hoping this would work – as I’ve been trying to find a GUI app that will convert my MKV file to something a standard DVD player would be able to show…
Any suggestions?
Many thanks -

I’ve a new error:

March 6th, 2009 on 1:03 am
Maltese Falcon X Your trying to output your mkv to a dvd disk image, the code for that is not yet written into the application hence the error your getting “Code to make dmg not yet done”. The only output ofrmat that work are those to apple device formats or to avi.
Oliviakrk can you tell me what your doing when you get the wav error?
March 6th, 2009 on 7:47 am
I checked the option: Stitch files together.
March 11th, 2009 on 12:13 am
stitching is not coded in yet.. maybe i should grey out the options that don’t function yet in the next release to avoid confusion
March 19th, 2009 on 4:08 pm
any progress yet ?
March 23rd, 2009 on 11:39 pm
well most of the mkv issues have been sorted, but i want to get some areas a bit more polished before the next release.
April 9th, 2009 on 6:32 pm
Thanks for all the continued feedback and emails, work is still progressing and coming along nicely
April 19th, 2009 on 10:39 am
Have you heard about: http://www.transcoder-redux.com/ ?
April 20th, 2009 on 6:57 pm
Yes did see that, the current build they have for download is just tylers code compiled as is, they do actually reference my support pack here, in their instructions.
But they are going a different route with their build, complete recode into C.
my goal is to get it finished in its current form and then, for a version 2.0 a rewrite into C .
